Who we are

An independent newsroom with one job

FFREEDOM (ffreedom.co.za) is published from Johannesburg by 1st Group Capital (Pty) Ltd. Our editorial team works independently of any product provider, and we publish for readers rather than for advertisers.

Financial freedom starts with understanding. We turn complex financial products and legislation into practical steps you can act on this month — no jargon, no product pushing, no hidden agendas.

  • Written and edited by people who read the fine print
  • Every claim tied to South African law, tax or market data
  • Free to read, always, with no paywall

What we cover

Five sections that carry a household

Personal Finance covers budgeting, debt and the mechanics of a salary. Tax Optimisation works through SARS brackets, deductions, provisional tax and the returns most people file wrong. Wealth Building deals with the JSE, ETFs, retirement annuities and tax-free savings.

Asset Protection looks at insurance, trusts, wills and estate duty. Alternative Investments covers property, offshore exposure, private credit and the assets sold hardest and understood least.

Each section runs as its own page, so you can follow the part of your finances you are working on right now rather than wading through everything else.

Who we write for

Real households, real constraints

Our readers are salaried professionals, small business owners, first-time investors and families carrying debt while trying to save. Not institutional investors and not people who already speak the language.

That shapes every editorial choice: we assume no prior knowledge, we show the numbers in rands, and we never end a piece without saying what to do next.

How we work

From question to published article

Topics come from reader questions and advisory conversations. A writer drafts against primary sources — the Income Tax Act, fund fact sheets, SARB and Stats SA data, product disclosure documents — and every figure is checked against the current tax year.

An accredited advisor reviews anything touching regulation before publication. When legislation changes, we go back and update the article rather than leaving a stale page online.

How we publish

Four rules that decide what makes the page

Plain language first

Every article is written so a first-time investor and a seasoned business owner both get value from the same page. No jargon walls, no product brochures.

South African numbers

Rands, SARS brackets, JSE instruments and local legislation. Imported American advice does not survive a South African tax return.

Independent of product

Sponsored placements are labelled and never influence editorial judgement. We do not rank products by commission.

Practical this month

Each piece ends with something you can actually do — a form to file, an account to open, a fee to renegotiate.

A Word from the Founder

When we started FFREEDOM, the idea was simple. Financial information in South Africa was either locked behind a product sale or written for people who already understood it. We wanted a publication that explains money the way a good friend in the industry would — honestly, in rands, with the fine print included.

This is not a brochure. It is a newsroom. Every article is written for the reader first, and we would rather tell you a product is wrong for you than earn a commission on it. That independence is the whole point.

Financial freedom is built one informed decision at a time. Thank you for letting us be part of yours.
